11/21/09:  77 BASS TODAY!!

In two days we caught 181 bass and about a dozen blues.  Do I have to say NOW IS THE TIME TO GET OUT THERE?  This is silly fishing.  In fact this is not fishing, this is catching.  If you want to bail them call me now!  This was all the action you wanted.  Simple drop your jig.  Wiggle it.  Fish On!  We limited out with the biggest fish being 19 LBS. 6 oz.   We had Anthony Mills, Jon Frankel, Phil Kamieniecki, Daniel Benjamin, Michael Mcmiliw, and even my son Andrew all caught fish! We were in only 30'-35' of water with fish so thick we even snagged a few.  Unreal!!  Let's get back out there!!  Capt. John

11/20/09:  104 BASS TODAY!!

This is one of those days that you remember for some time to come..  We were out today with only a three person charter.  Three guys, 104 BASS.  Thats as good as it gets.  It was non stop jigging action all day long.  We had only 3 bluefish as well with one topping 16 Lbs.!  The bass were all 25" - 33", but most were just about keeper size so limiting out was not a problem for us today.  I would like to thank Ed Grover, Joe Recker and Fred Aasen for keeping with it all day.  Most guys would of given up after catching half the amount we did.  Well, I have another trip tomorrow.  Were gonna try and beat today, but that's a hard act to follow!  Capt. John

9/11/09:  Bluefin Today

We had to turn and overnighter into a day bluefin trip due to high seas.  We were out with Levi, his dad and his sister Sarah, Joe Noel, and Tommy Corman.  We headed to the Ledge where fish were caught days earlier.  Only pulled a few blues out of there.  The bluefin were still there but there were about 75 boats keeping them down.  So I decided to head off another 25 miles.  Well that paid off.  We went two for two with 45 LB bluefin tuna on sardine baits.  More blues out that way as well.

The bass action is just starting to heat up and there is blues and weaks mixed in as well.  If you want some good fishing it's time to go now.  See ya at the dock.  Capt. John

8/19/09:  60 FLUKE Half Day Trip

Out today with Ed Szott, his wife Diane, daughter Shelby, and boys Ryne and Jackson.  I pulled into a spot that my mate fished the day before and crushed them.  (Thanks Eric! - See I did give you credit)  It was non-stop.  Two Three Four Fish on at once!  60 fish in a half day!!  They weren't all keepers, but the biggest was 5 LBS.  No junk fish and we were back at the dock by 11:30 AM!  Can't beat that...  Capt. John

8/15/09 to 8/16/09:  Marlin Again!

Well today we were out with Chris Korin and friends.  We headed to the 30 fathom line again to try for some bluefins.  We were marking but not to many takers. We had one on fr a while (Bigger Fish) but it pulled the hook.  So, I fired up my triple Evinrudes and blasted out to the west elbow of the Hudson for some night time chunking.  As I pulled in the temperature went from 71 to 75 in a hurry so I stopped the boat right on the cliff and started chunking.  The Hydrowglow light was loaded with squid and other marine life.  We were excited to see all the squid.    Well night went on with only a small mako that was landed and released.  In the morning we trolled and immediately two rods went off with skip jacks.  Later we had a beautiful (large) white marlin on which hit a rainbow Sterling Tackle Spreader bar!  It made incredible leaps with one final one have it spit the hook.  What a show! Thats now two weeks in a row with marlin.  Later I found a nice temp break and weed line with some really nice mahi in it.  Biggest one was 18 LBS.  Right next to the weed line I was marking tons of big eyes about 150-200 feet down, but we couldn't convince them to come up.  We even stopped and jigged and threw sardines at them but they weren't hungry...  This time...  Capt John

8/8/09 to 8/9/09: TUNA TIME!

We headed to the thirty fathom line on of our favorite spots to try for bluefin.  We had a lot of life when we pulled in there.  We had immediate "Gaffer Size" Mahi in the slick.  Shortly after, a huge school of bonito came racing through and we had bluefin under the boat.  Within minutes it was fish on!  We got a nice size bluefin 60 lb. range to the side of the boat, but it took a run and broke off.  We then had a much bigger fish on, probably 100 lb. class.  Which we battled for a while and the line must of just nicked the prop.  We fought it for a little while longer and the line snapped!  Frustrated, the guys decided they would rather go to the canyon to try for yellowfin than stay and battle some more bluefins.  Arriving into the 100 square I was on a nice temp break of 5 degrees. We chunked all night without a touch.  Seemed to be the norm of the night.  Earlier that day in the morning it was non stop BIG EYE's, and my buddy landed and released a blue marlin.  We got up on the troll in the morning and couldn't get all the lines out and had a double header with 2 yellowfins.  Got excited as we thought we were going to have a productive day trolling, but that action died as quick as it began.  Later in the morning we had one knock down and another yellowfin almost to the boat, but was given a bit too much slack from a tired angler.  The excitement of the day was a white marlin that we raised in the spread.  The action is just starting to heat up.  Book early if you are thinking of going offshore.  We would love to go bluefin fishing too if there is anyone interested....  Capt. John
